Circa 2013 Land Area in Coastal Louisiana - Spatial Data - Landsat TM

Metadata Updated: November 12, 2020

The dataset presented here represents a circa 2013 land/water delineation of coastal Louisiana used in part of a larger study to quantify landscape changes from 1932 to 2016. The dataset contains two categories, land and water. For the purposes of this effort, land includes areas characterized by emergent vegetation, upland, wetland forest, or scrub-shrub were classified as land, while open water, aquatic beds, and mudflats were classified as water. For additional information regarding this dataset, refer to USGS SIM 3381.

Access Constraints Use Constraints: Acknowledgement of the U.S. Geological Survey, Wetland and Aquatic Research Center as a data source would be appreciated in products developed from these data, and such acknowledgment as is standard for citation and legal practices for data source is expected by users of this data. Sharing new data layers developed directly from these data would also be appreciated by WARC staff. As this dataset is intended for coarse-scale (coastwide and basin-scale) assessments, it is not appropriate for land area assessments nor the calculation of change rates at finer scales. Users are advised to read the data set's metadata thoroughly to understand appropriate use and data limitations. Users are advised to contact the author of this research with questions regarding its appropriate use. The distributor shall not be liable for improper or incorrect use of this data, based on the description of appropriate/inappropriate uses described in this metadata document. These data are not legal documents and are not to be used as such., Access Constraints: It is strongly recommended that this data is directly acquired from the distributor described above or from another USGS Biological Resources Division server and not indirectly through other sources which may have changed the data in some way. The distributor makes no claims as to the data's suitability for other purposes. This data is intended for multi-decadal coastwide and basin level analyses. It may not be appropriate for analyses at finer spatial or temporal scales.
