Yellow-billed Loon Geodatabase

Metadata Updated: November 12, 2020

The Yellow-billed loon Geodatabase is a compilation of Yellow-billed loon observations and survey data. This database is intended to be a qualitative "first look" at where loons have been found and where surveys have been conducted. This dataset is intended for general planning and mapping purposes, it should NOT be used for deriving density estimates. The dataset is available either as an ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 file geodatabase or as a shapefile with associated tables.

This database is intended to be a qualitative "first look" at where loons have been recorded and where surveys have been conducted. This dataset is intended for general planning and mapping purposes, it should NOT be used for deriving density estimates. Users are reminded that these data do not represent all locations within the geographic scope of this database that may be occupied by yellow-billed loons. In an effort to provide the most comprehensive overview possible, we have incorporated many data sources, representing many different survey methods. When interpreting these data, users are reminded to consider that detectability of loons is a function of many variables, including differences in species, habitat, time-of-year, weather conditions, sun angle, and survey techniques. Arctic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (Arctic LCC) staff have compiled this dataset to the best of their abilities using the resources available to them.
